Resilient neighborhoods begin with you.
“…a shift in power where community members own and help produce the result will lead to greater, more sustainable impact.”
-Paul Schmitz, CEO of Leading Inside Out
Our mission is to build community resilience that strengthens families and supports world-class education in Salem-Keizer.
We believe families are the solution. That’s why we’ve made it our goal to amplify the voices of neighborhood residents to effect lasting change at a local level.
What is CBEL?
The CBEL Collaborative is driven by the purpose that every child should grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing home, enjoy good health, succeed in school and go on in life to become financially self-sufficient. The most important thing children need to flourish are safe, stable, and nurturing relationships that begin with family and extend to friends and neighbors. Children who are at the greatest risk for the poorest outcomes in learning, in health, and in behavior are children who experience a pile up of adversity. This could include poverty; parents who have experienced incarceration, mental health challenges, or addiction; foster care and more. At some point, the burden becomes more than any child should be expected to overcome.
So we brought together leaders in our community to ask ourselves what could be done to help us identify solutions and magnify community voices. We formed the CBEL Collaborative and identified 3 key collective impact initiatives that could help us achieve these goals:
The Mid-Willamette Valley Homeless Alliance,
The Marion Polk Early Learning Hub, and
The Fostering Hope Initiative.
To effectively and transparently measure our results we decided to use Results Based Accountability and to ensure representation and results that accurately reflect the lived experiences of our entire community, we made a commitment to promoting Racial Justice and Reconciliation and supporting the Neighborhood Family Councils – the keystone holding the collaborative and its mission together. By leveraging shared resources and putting the voices of our neighbors at the heart of every conversation, we can help bridge the gap between adversities and our desired outcomes.
Together, we can build a safer, more stable, and nurturing future for the children and greater community of Salem-Keizer.
